Modification Priority Order
Ranked by cost-effectiveness โ best bang for your buck first.
| # | Mod | Category | Cost | Why | Safety |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Governor Removal | Safety / RPM Access | $0 | Without RPM, nothing else matters. HP = Torque ร RPM รท 5252. | REQUIRES billet rod + flywheel for safe operation |
| 2 | Billet Connecting Rod | Safety | $60-120 | Stock rod WILL fail above 5000 RPM. This is non-negotiable. | The most important safety mod. Never skip. |
| 3 | Exhaust Upgrade | Breathing | $30-80 | Stock muffler is very restrictive. Any free-flowing exhaust frees HP. | Safe. Re-jet carb. |
| 4 | Air Intake Upgrade | Breathing | $15-40 | Stock filter + airbox restricts flow. More air in = more power. | Safe. Re-jet carb. |
| 5 | Timing Advance Key | Ignition | $5-20 | 4ยฐ advance = 1-2 HP for $5. Best bang-for-buck mod. | 8ยฐ key may need premium fuel. |
| 6 | Carb Re-Jet / Upgrade | Fuel | $5-120 | Breathing mods without fueling = lean = melted piston. | Rich is safe. Lean is dangerous. |
| 7 | Camshaft Upgrade | Engine Internals | $60-150 | Cam controls everything about the powerband. Match to your RPM target. | Requires upgraded valve springs. |
| 8 | Head Porting & Polishing | Engine Internals | $0-200+ | Stock ports have significant restrictions. Clean them up for 2-5 HP. | Safe if you don't break through a port wall. |
| 9 | Billet Flywheel | Safety | $100-160 | Stock flywheel is a grenade at high RPM. Billet = safe + stronger spark. | Required for sustained 5000+ RPM. |
| 10 | Compression Increase | Engine Internals | $20-150 | Every point of compression = 3-4% more power. Milling head is cheap. | Watch knock. May need premium fuel. |
Critical Safety Order
Governor removal (step 1) MUST be followed immediately by steps 2 and 9 โ billet rod and flywheel. The stock cast rod fails at ~5000 RPM and the stock flywheel can explode. These are not optional if you remove the governor.
